Types of Information Terra Collects

Personal Information
Personal information is data that is associated with a username or personal identity. Terra uses this information to better understand users’ needs and interests, and to provide them with the best service. On some Terra website pages, users may be able to request information, subscribe to mailing lists, participate in online discussions, collaborate on documents, provide feedback, submit information into registries, register for events, apply for membership, or join technical committees or working groups. The types of personal information users provide on these pages may include name, address, phone number, email address, usernames, passwords and billing information.

Non-Personal Information
Non-personal information is data about usage and service operation that is not directly associated with personal identity. It includes aggregate information, log files and cookies.

Aggregate Information
Terra may gather aggregate information, which refers to the data each user’s computer automatically provides. This information cannot be linked back to the specific user. Examples include referral data (the websites users visit immediately before and after the Terra website), pages viewed, time spent on the Terra website and Internet Protocol (IP) address – a number that is automatically assigned to a user’s computer whenever they access the internet. For example, when a user requests a page from the Terra website, its servers log the associated IP address to create aggregate reports on user demographics and traffic patterns, and for purposes of system administration.

Log Files
Every time a user requests or downloads a file from the Terra website, Terra may store data about these events and the associated IP address in a log file. Terra may use this information to analyze trends, administer the website, track user movement, and gather broad demographic information for aggregate use or for other business purposes.

Cookies
The Terra website may employ a web browser feature to set a “cookie” on users’ computers. Cookies are small packets of information that a website’s server stores on a user’s computer. Afterward, the website can read the cookies whenever a user visits the website. Terra may use cookies in a number of ways, such as to save users’ passwords so they don’t need to re-enter them each time they visit the website, to deliver content specific to users’ interests and to track the pages they’ve visited. These cookies allow Terra to use the information it collects to customize users’ experiences so their website visits are as relevant and as valuable as possible. Most browser software can be set up to enable or disable cookies. Users may modify their browser preference to provide them with choices relating to cookies. Users have the choice to accept all cookies, to be notified when a cookie is set or to reject all cookies. If users choose to reject cookies, certain functions and conveniences of the Terra website may not work properly. Users may be unable to use certain Terra services that require registration in order to participate, or may need to re-register each time they visit the website. Most browsers offer instructions on how to reset the preference to reject cookies in the “Help” section of the toolbar. Terra does not link non-personal information from cookies to personally identifiable information without user permission.

How Terra Uses Information from Users
Terra does not sell, rent or lease users’ personal information or lists of email addresses to anyone or any company for marketing purposes, and takes commercially reasonable steps to maintain the security of this information. Terra may use non-personal data that is aggregated for reporting about its website usability, performance and effectiveness. This data may be used to improve the experience, usability and content of the Terra website.

Information Sharing
Terra reserves the right to supply users’ information to any organization with which Terra may merge in the future or to which it may make any transfer in order to enable a third party to continue part or all of Terra services. Terra also reserves the right to release personal information to protect its systems or business when the company reasonably believes a user to be in violation of these terms and conditions, or if Terra reasonably believes a user to have initiated or participated in any illegal activity. In certain circumstances, Terra may be obligated to release users’ personal information pursuant to judicial or other government subpoenas, warrants or other orders.

Any information (including personal information) that users disclose in public areas of the Terra website, such as forums, message boards and newsgroups, becomes public information that others may collect, circulate and use. Because Terra cannot and does not control the acts of others, users should exercise caution when deciding to disclose information about themselves or others in public forums such as these.

Terra is committed to keeping the personal information of its participating organizations accurate. All the information users submit to Terra can be verified and changed. In order to do this, users should email a request to info@terraoutdoor.com. Terra may provide users' with online access to their personal profiles, enabling them to update or delete information at any time. To protect its users privacy and security, Terra also may take reasonable steps to verify identity, such as username and password, before granting access to modify personal profile data. Certain areas of the Terra website may limit access to specific individuals through the use of passwords or other personal identifiers. A password prompt is an indication that a user-only resource is being accessed.

Security
Terra makes every effort to protect the personal information of its website users, including the use of firewalls and other security measures on its servers. However, no server is 100% secure and users should take this into account when submitting personal or confidential information about themselves on any website. Much of the personal information is used in conjunction with participation-level services such as collaboration and discussion, so some types of personal information such as usernames, company affiliations, and email addresses will be visible to other Terra users and to the public.
