No Middleman
Terra goes to the source, working with our trusted design and manufacturing partners to bring exclusive furnishings and accessories directly to you. We only sell our assortment through our website and our showrooms, and we ship from our warehouse using our own fleet of delivery trucks. That’s how we’re able to offer products of the highest quality for 20% less than other brands charge. -
Green Practices
We strive to ensure our products and business practices reflect our love and respect for the planet. We use sustainably grown, responsibly sourced Indonesian legal wood for all our teak furnishings. Our History
Terra Founder Steve Keihner: Steve Keihner entered the retail world after building a successful delivery and logistics company from the ground up. Helming that company for 12 years, he not only learned the ins and outs of sourcing and supply chains, he also developed a business philosophy in which quality and value shared center stage, with respect for his customers, his employees and the environment.
Terra’s Original Mill Valley Store: A few years after selling his first company, Steve was searching for outdoor furniture for his new home in Marin County, CA. He struck up a conversation with the owner of Benches, Etc. – a quirky local shop at the base of Mt. Tamalpais in Mill Valley. When he discovered she was moving out of state, he offered to buy the business. She accepted and Terra was born.
Going Straight to the Source: Steve went straight to the source of the world’s best teak – Indonesia. He forged close relationships with the top manufacturers of premium plantation-grown teak furnishings and began working with them to create proprietary designs for Terra. As Steve added aluminum, all-weather wicker and concrete furniture to Terra’s offerings, he followed the same approach.
Expanding Across the Region: Soon Terra had developed quite a following, with customers traveling from all over Northern California to visit the Mill Valley store. Steve opened a second Terra store in Walnut Creek, and when that one quickly became as popular as the original location, he began opening stores in the East Bay and South Bay.
Moving Into SoCal & Sacto: In just three years, Terra was fortunate enough to open three new showrooms. The first Southern California outpost moved into Fountain Valley in 2019, followed by Pasadena in 2021. That same year, Terra opened its 15,000-sq.-ft. flagship store just north of Sacramento in Rocklin, CA, and launched its new website, helping the company connect with customers across the country.
Building a Brand for the Future: In 2023, the third Southern California showroom opened in Agoura Hills. As Terra expands its reach, the company is working to further reduce its environmental impact. Terra has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainably grown teak, brought in ocean-sourced plastics and ensured that its manufacturing partners around the world share these values. In addition, Terra is donating to the U.S. Forest Foundation’s Plant-A-Tree Program, planting a tree in honor of every customer order.
